Welcome to The Bunkhouse Quilt Shop Clear Pixel

The Bunkhouse Quilt Shop is located in the south-eastern part of the State of New Hampshire. It is a small, rural community with little industry and is located between Nashua, NH and Peterborough, NH. The population is about 1700. It is also only 22 miles from the Manchester, NH airport.

The Bunkhouse Quilt Shop has been in operation as a quilt shop since September 1, 2002. The building was, literally, the “bunkhouse” for the migrant workers who worked in the apple orchards. It sits in the middle of one of the parcels that contain many varieties of apple trees. The Jamaican workers would come in the late summer and stay until the harvesting of the orchards was complete. At the end of the harvest a large gathering of the workers would meet at the Bunkhouse and a ritual similar to what we have as a summer cookout would take place.
The owner of the shop has failed at "retirement 101"; tried it a second time and failed again. So she decided to do something she has loved for years and that was to turn her “fortune” (joke) into a business. The quilt shop began with a small number of bolts, 400, and has continually grown to where it is bursting at the seams. There are a little over 1500 bolts, notions and books that fill the small 750 square footage area. It continues to fascinate and bring lots of happiness and will be moving into larger quarters by this fall.
An update to the above information: Just before the "big" move was to take place, the entire complex was struck by lightning. Several businesses lost virtually everything. The owner of the complex, Dan Holt, my son-in-law, who is so resilient, was able to shake this off and rebuild three separate units. In June of this year, 2006, the Bunkhouse moved into its new "digs" and without any lights the first two weeks, enjoyed the wonderful, spacious, building. Lights are on now and inventory has increased. There is a large classroom where one can come and lay out quilts, if desired. I like to think it is still "a fun place to visit"!
